Vikasit Bharat Ki Sankalp Yatra: Is Development Less Important Than The Campaign?

  • Controversy erupts over BJP’s election drive in Ahmedabad, accused of misusing public funds.
  • Shehzad Khan Pathan objects to exploiting municipal school children for political purposes.
  • BJP conducts 96 programs for 48 days across Ahmedabad to inform citizens about government schemes.
  • Concerns arise over transparency as expenses for each program draw attention.
  • Reports reveal 200 municipal school students compelled to attend, raising ethical concerns and facing opposition criticism.

In Ahmedabad, the initiation of BJP’s Lok Sabha election campaign has sparked controversy, centering around the alleged misuse of public funds for political gains. Opposition leader Shri Shehzad Khan Pathane raised concerns about an application submitted for approval in the Standing Committee, asserting that municipal school children are being exploited for political purposes.

Under the guise of informing citizens about various government schemes, the BJP launched the “Vikasit Bharat Sankalp” campaign in all 48 wards of Ahmedabad city. The campaign, consisting of 96 programs held both morning and evening for 48 days, has come under scrutiny for its financial implications. Each program in the Dhaba-organized yatra reportedly costs Rs. [amount], drawing attention to the alleged misuse of tax funds.

The controversy deepened with the revelation that 200 students from municipal schools are mandated to attend these programs daily. Opposition leaders find this directive not only objectionable but also a shameful exploitation of young minds for political gain. The sentiment resonates with a growing concern that the ruling BJP, in collaboration with the administrative system, is compromising the future of these children for political ends.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (Mu.Corp) is meant to serve as a local self-government entity, devoid of political affiliations. However, there’s a prevailing perception that the Mu.Corp is being politicized in favor of the BJP’s political interests. This shift in focus from governance to political activities has raised questions about the violation of the Corporation’s established principles.

Over the years, BJP officials have allegedly exerted pressure on the administration to implement programs that serve their political objectives. This trend has transformed Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation from a neutral public service provider to an arena dominated by BJP-centric initiatives. The impact is felt from the smallest ward-level employee to high-ranking officials, all engrossed in politically charged programs reminiscent of election campaigns.

This shift in focus has detrimental effects on the primary services offered by the Corporation, leading to increased difficulties for citizens seeking assistance. The Congress party strongly condemns what it perceives as a blatant attempt by the ruling BJP to misuse public resources for political purposes. The demand is clear – either return these initiatives or face opposition from the Congress party.

As the political controversy unfolds in Ahmedabad, the fate of the ‘Vikasit Bharat Sankalp’ campaign remains uncertain, with the Congress party vehemently opposed to what it deems an inappropriate exploitation of public funds and resources.
