Enhancing City Safety: Vadodara Installs 75 Cameras on 10 Flyovers After Recent Accidents

“Municipal Initiative Aims to Boost Security and Deter Criminal Activities”

In a proactive move aimed at fortifying citizen safety and deterring criminal activities, Vadodara City is set to install 75 state-of-the-art CCTV cameras across 10 prominent flyovers. This strategic decision follows a series of recent incidents, including the tragic Ellisbridge accident and a disconcerting episode in Ahmedabad, where an accident on the ISKCON Bridge was exacerbated by the absence of functioning CCTVs and street lights.

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), led by Commissioner Dilip Rana, took swift action to address this pressing concern. Learning from past incidents, they embarked on a mission to bolster the city’s security infrastructure, ensuring a safer environment for motorists and residents alike. The project, which involves equipping flyovers with cutting-edge surveillance technology, stands as a testament to the municipality’s commitment to the well-being of its citizens.

Under the watchful gaze of the newly installed cameras, previously problematic areas such as busy junctions, key road intersections, and sensitive zones have experienced significant improvements. Instances of illegal dumping, unruly behaviour, and even criminal activities have been brought under control with the assistance of the vigilant CCTV network.

Meticulous planning has gone into the project, identifying 17 strategic locations on 10 vital flyover bridges, including well-known landmarks like Atal Bridge, Lalbaugh Bridge, and Fateganj Bridge. To ensure comprehensive coverage, each designated spot will house four cameras, providing a comprehensive view of the surroundings and enhancing overall surveillance efficiency.

The significance of this initiative is paramount. “It is an important project for the security of citizens,” affirms Commissioner Dilip Rana. The comprehensive coverage and advanced technology of these cameras are set to foster a more secure environment for Vadodara’s residents while simultaneously playing a pivotal role in aiding investigations when needed.

A notable success story stemming from this endeavor is the capture of individuals caught in the act of illegally disposing of waste into the river. CCTVs positioned along Mangal Pandey Road, extending from Kalaghoda to Rati Bazar Bridge, have been instrumental in identifying and penalizing violators. Notably, this swift response mechanism has resulted in fines exceeding 25,000 rupees, serving as a powerful deterrent against such environmentally harmful actions.

As Vadodara takes bold strides towards a safer urban landscape, the installation of these CCTV cameras on flyovers marks a significant turning point. With an unwavering focus on security and accountability, the municipality stands as a shining example of proactive governance, dedicated to safeguarding its citizens and maintaining the integrity of its public spaces.
