Rajkot’s ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ Campaign Takes Stringent Action Against Littering and Plastic Violations

“Penalties Imposed on 61 Offenders for Littering in Public, 9.7 kg of Prohibited Plastic Seized”

In a concerted effort to make Rajkot a cleaner and plastic-free city, while raising awareness about the importance of cleanliness, the Rajkot Municipal Corporation launched the “Swacchta Hi Seva” campaign from October 15, 2023, to December 16, 2023. As part of this drive, the Solid Waste Management Department of Rajkot Municipal Corporation conducted an extensive cleanliness operation on October 25, 2023, across three zones, resulting in punitive action against 61 citizens for littering and illegal disposal of garbage. Furthermore, 9.7 kilograms of prohibited plastic were confiscated.

This initiative witnessed the active involvement of the sanitary inspectors and sanitary sub-inspector teams from various wards in Rajkot. Here’s a breakdown of the actions taken:

 

Central Zone A dedicated team from wards no. 02, 03, 07, 13, 14, and 17 undertook an intensive cleaning operation, checking for prohibited plastics, and penalizing citizens found causing public nuisance. In the central zone, 24 individuals were held accountable for their actions, with 3 kilograms of banned plastics seized.

West Zone In the western zone, sanitary inspectors and sub-inspectors from wards no. 01, 08, 09, 10, 11, and 12 executed a comprehensive campaign to ensure cleanliness. This team penalized 24 citizens who were contributing to public nuisance in the West Zone and confiscated 5.4 kilograms of banned plastics.

East Zone The eastern zone witnessed a similar drive by the team of sanitary inspectors and sub-inspectors from wards no. 04, 05, 06, 15, 16, and 18. Thirteen citizens in the East Zone were taken to task for their actions, and 1.3 kilograms of prohibited plastics were seized during this campaign.

This expansive operation was conducted under the guidance of Commissioner  Anand Patel and Deputy Commissioner  NR Parmar. The Environmental Engineer of the Solid Waste Management Department of Rajkot Municipal Corporation and Deputy Environmental Engineer PC Solanki, VM Jinjala, and DU Tuvar played pivotal roles in executing the plastic ban checks and penalizing citizens causing public nuisance.

The “Swachhta Hi Seva” campaign demonstrates Rajkot’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a clean and plastic-free environment, making it a more pleasant place to live, work, and visit.
