Gujarat Drug Seizure Discrepancy: Questions Over Missing Opium

Questions have been raised over discrepancies in the quantity of seized narcotics in Gujarat, following audit observations and police records from multiple districts.

In one case, the Surendranagar Special Operations Group had seized 31 kg of opium in February 2022. However, during the disposal process, only 2 kg was recorded. Police stated that the reduction in weight was due to evaporation. A similar issue was reported at Anklav police station in Anand district, where a portion of seized material was also found missing during verification.

Audit findings have pointed out gaps between seized and disposed quantities, with variations reported in multiple cases. The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has noted that such explanations are not scientifically supported.

Authorities have registered the discrepancies, and further examination of storage and disposal procedures is expected. More details are awaited.
