Concerns are increasing over the impact of excessive mobile phone use on children’s eating habits and health, as highlighted in recent research.
According to the findings, children who spend more than two hours daily on mobile phones or tablets are showing changes in their food habits. Many are eating without attention, not chewing food properly, and are unable to recognise hunger or fullness. This is affecting their digestion and overall nutrition.
Experts also noted that some children tend to overeat while using screens, increasing the risk of obesity, while others skip meals, leading to undernutrition. Behavioural issues such as irritability have also been observed when screen time is restricted.
Health experts have advised parents to limit screen time and avoid the use of mobile phones during meals. They have also suggested encouraging outdoor activities and creative habits among children.
Further awareness efforts are expected to address the issue.
