Vadodara: High Court Takes Note of Delay in Baroda Dairy Elections
The election process of Baroda Dairy, officially known as the Vadodara District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, has come under judicial scrutiny following a delay in conducting polls within the prescribed time. As per cooperative society rules, elections must be completed at least 90 days before the end of the existing board’s term. This requirement was not followed in the case of Baroda Dairy.
Taking serious note of the delay, the Gujarat High Court has directed the Vadodara Collector and five senior officials to remain personally present before the court. These include key officers from the cooperation department, such as the Cooperation Secretary and the Registrar. The court has sought an explanation for the failure to conduct elections within the mandated timeframe.
During the proceedings, the court also raised concerns over the government extending the board’s term at the last moment, just before contempt proceedings were likely to begin. The High Court has indicated that further action, including framing of charges, may be considered if satisfactory answers are not provided.
Baroda Dairy is one of the largest cooperative institutions in the district, involving thousands of milk producers. The matter is currently under consideration, and further directions from the court are awaited.
