The Government of India has generated ₹4,405.28 crore through a nationwide scrap disposal and office clean-up campaign launched in 2021. The initiative aims to clear unused materials, old files and scrap from government offices while improving administrative efficiency.
According to official data, more than ₹200 crore was earned during December 2025 and January 2026. In January alone, a special drive conducted across 5,188 government offices generated ₹115.85 crore. Authorities said over 81,000 old files were disposed of, freeing approximately 4.34 lakh square feet of office space.
The government also reported progress in digital functioning. In January 2026, 94% of official work was processed through e-files, and 65 departments have moved towards paperless operations. During the same period, over 5.57 lakh public grievances were addressed, with a reported disposal rate of 90%.
Officials stated that the campaign will continue across departments. Further updates are expected as the drive progresses.
