The level of the Vishwamitri river has dropped to 17.75 feet. However, on the other hand, the water level of the Ajwa dam increased from 212 to 212.15 feet. As a result, the administration decided to release 3150 cusecs of water from the dam and the level of Vishwamitri is likely to rise by 1-1.5 feet by 3 p.m. The administration is on alert as this will again increase the water level in Vishwamitri.
The gates of the Ajwa dam have been set at 212 feet on 15th August as a part of a plan to maintain the levels of Ajwa and Pratppura lakes. As a result, 0.30 foot of excess water will be discharged into the Vishwamitri river. Similarly, 1.5 feet of water will be released into the river to maintain the level at Pratap Sarovar at 222 feet.
People do not need to panic but they have to be careful. People living on the banks of the Vishwamitri River have been shifted at relief camps and are advised to stay at the camp until the situation goes back to normal.
At 10 pm on 14th August, the level of Pratappura was 226.20 feet. The level of Pratappura lake is to be maintained at 222 feet, after which the discharge of water will be stopped. Similarly, the level of Ajwa Dam is to be maintained at 212 feet. In the case of heavy rains, the water of Ajwa Dam and Pratap Sarovar may be released. If there is no rain, the possible flood crisis of Vishwamitri will be averted. The Vishwamitri river level rose to 23.75 feet.
Now the level of the river is likely to rise again as the water level at the dam rises again. VMC will release water to maintain the level.
