Vishnu Chai, Sayajigunj

The ‘Banyan city’ Vadodara (formerly known as Baroda) was originally named for its dense Banyan tree cover over its territory in ancient India. An till date a true Barodian is residing in the cover of trees (not banyan though) with his not less than a sensation tea and coffee; VISHNU’s TEA CENTER is what it is called and that true Barodian is Vishnu

Vishnu’s Tea Center is situated at a petit place near The MSU Fine Arts Faculty, Sayajigunj. The Tea Center is not in level to the ground but at a lower heavenly parallel which takes u straight to a smaller version of the beautiful Mahabaleshwar valleys. Vishnu operates at a very spacious place and can accommodate people as well as two wheelers which can get down, get parked and can be added to the tea/coffee experience. Obviously if so many people drop by there is ought to be a little mess but this is not an issue for Vishnu coz he keeps all his premises neat and clean everyday on a regular basis. With this kind of lovely and soul pleasing atmosphere Vishnu’s give u an ordinary but an out of the box experience of having your tea and coffee.

The prime reason why Vishnu is popular among Barodians is his consistent taste of tea and coffee. Vishnu is a prominent example of the fact that simple and effective things work no matter what because he sells only one kind of tea and coffee on his tea center. A major part of his customers are the university students and many company employees as well.

With constant taste and a wow ambience Vishnu provides all this at an extremely low and affordable rates. Every man who steps at Vishnu’s Tea Center surely has his share of tea/coffee without burning a hole in his pocket. And that’s the very reason why Vishnu is so celebrated for a regular and repetitive tea/coffee experience.

For people who think there might be a compromise with the quality of tea/coffee he offers at such a low price to the customers it will be an eye opener that he uses ‘A’ grade products for the preparation of his tea and coffee. Be it milk, tea leaves or coffee mix. (Amul Gold milk from Baroda Dairy, Whagbakri tea leaves for tea etc.)

Vishnu has been into making tea and coffee for a time span of 20 years now. He used to work at various tea shops and eateries before he started his own work. Today he regularly operates at his tea center from morning 7 till evening 6 serving tea and coffee along with a soothing smile and a local drive ‘down’ experience.

With such limited resources and an exhaustive menu at his tea center, Vishnu is able to make a very decent living for his family from last 20 years which consists of his wife, two children and his brother who also works with him at the tea center. Vishnu is so true to his work that he believes in doing his business ethically and thus you will not see any child working on his tea center. He is nothing less than a company’s manager because he very well manages his tea center in such a way that he is always into tea/coffee options of many customers and also because he earns decently well.

Vishnu is a personality in himself in Vadodara. He acts as an inspiration to many and is a reason to be on page 3 as well as radio stations. There have been articles of his struggle and never ending spirit in many newspapers. His tea center has been voted as the 2nd most famous place in Vadodara on a public poll on a local radio station. And best of all, artists from The MSU Faculty of Fine Arts organized an exhibition ‘Cutting Chai’ inspired by him in 2007. Vishnu was called to inaugurate the exhibition and was visibly elated on the occasion.

Vishnu’s tea center is now an integral part of Vadodara. He has DONE BIG IN HIS OWN TERMS and is a perfect example of the Fact that a little less is always better.
