These 164 hospitals in Vadodara will now not admit patients with Oxygen requirement

A decision taken by O.S.D Dr.Vinod Rao left 164 small hospitals treating COVID-19 patients in surprise as the notification was published as per which now onwards All COVID Designated Hospitals will be categorized into following groups:

  • Government COVID Hospitals
  • Group A – Private COVID Hospitals with the highest number of patients on Oxygen support, ICU and Ventilators (Annexure 2)
  • Group B – Private COVID Hospitals with lesser number of patients on Oxygen support, ICU and Ventilators (Annexure 3)
  • Group C – All other Private COVID Hospitals who will ONLY give treatment support for COVID Patients NOT REQUIRING Piped/Cylinder Oxygen (Annexure 4)

In Group C 164 hospitals are included which will now have top stop admitting patients needing oxygen therapy. The existing patients can be treated till they are discharged but no new patients on Oxygen support can be admitted except with their own Oxygen Concentrators.

This decision was taken to get a requisite supply of oxygen based on the current situation, evaluation, and assessment of the allotted quota. 12 Government COVID hospitals use 92 Metric Tons of Oxygen per day. 25 Hospitals in Group A use 35 Metric Tons of Oxygen Per Day and 50 hospitals in Group B uses 23 Metric Tons of oxygen per day.

The notification also states that No Hospitals / Clinics / Consultants shall prescribe Oxygen Therapy for Home-Based COVID Care. No Hospitals / Clinics / NGOs / Institutions / Consultants / Individuals shall do hoarding of Oxygen in any manner since it will create an artificial scarcity of Cylinders and Oxygen. No agency will be allowed to do refilling or trading of Oxygen in any form unless falling in any of the authorized categories of Hospitals above.
