Movie review : Piku (2015)

Stars : Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Irrfan.

Director : Shoojit Sircar

Genre : Drama

Piku is a refreshing take on the dynamics of the father and daughter bond. Deepika plays Piku who is an independent, headstrong, motor mouth Bengali girl next door living with her aging, boisterous, insufferable father dealing with constant bowel problems played by veteran actor Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. Director Shoojit Sircar does a commendable job in portraying the sharp Bengali wit and intellect in an endearing, quirky manner. Irrfan Khan plays the patient, helpful second lead with integrity. The movie takes us on a rather eccentric road trip to Kolkata as the beautiful locales of the city adorn the second half. The scatological humour adds a light hearted element to the otherwise heart warming, bittersweet scrip. Deepika Padukone plays her character with flair making Piku believable and grounded. Mr Bachchan flaunts a paunch and with flawless comic timing, he delivers a memorable performance that will make you laugh and melt your heart at the same time. Strongly recommend to anyone looking for an entertaining yet touching movie experience.
