The last 11 months of 2019 saw a 12% decline in road accidents in Vadodara, as per the data from the Vadodara Traffic Police.
According to the stats, the accident fatalities are dropped by 16% and the number of killed or injured declined by 17% from Jan’19 to Nov’19. A total of 623 accidents were reported in Vadodara, in which 139 people were killed and 490 others injured, the data revealed.
However, during the same period in 2018, 714 road accidents were reported in the city, in which 165 people were killed and 592 other were injured.
The decline in the data seems to be interesting especially after the Central and State Government made amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act in September, wherein heavy fines were collected on the violating traffic rules. However, a significant decision was made by State Road Transport Minister, R C Faldu in Dec’19, wherein wearing helmets was voluntary in the limits municipalities and municipal corporations, but mandatory on national/state highways and Panchayat made roads.
