The five-year term of the elected body of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has ended, and the civic body will now function under an administrative setup until new elections are held. With the completion of the tenure, the offices of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and other office bearers have been closed as per procedure.
Shalini Agarwal, Managing Director of GUVNL and former Municipal Commissioner of Vadodara, has been appointed as the administrator of VMC. Following her appointment, the nameplate outside the Mayor’s office has been replaced with that of the administrator. Nameplates of other elected office bearers have also been removed.
Officials confirmed that government vehicles earlier assigned to the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Standing Committee Chairman and other leaders have been returned to the corporation’s vehicle pool. Their offices inside the civic body have also been locked.
Until municipal elections are conducted and a new elected body takes charge, administrative decisions of the corporation will be handled by the appointed administrator along with the Municipal Commissioner and other officials. Further updates are awaited regarding the election schedule.
