Vadodara civic body starts review of ₹7,609 crore draft budget

Discussions on the Vadodara Municipal Corporation’s draft budget for the financial year 2026–27 began on Tuesday at the Standing Committee. The ₹7,609 crore budget, presented earlier by Municipal Commissioner Arun Mahesh Babu, is now under review by the committee.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Standing Committee Chairperson Dr Sheetal Mistry, where members discussed proposed development works and civic facilities outlined in the budget. Key areas of focus include infrastructure projects, public amenities, and financial planning for the coming year.

Sources said the commissioner’s proposal to increase certain taxes is expected to be discussed in detail. However, with municipal elections scheduled in the coming months, no final decision has been taken on tax-related proposals. Several members raised questions about the status of projects announced in previous budgets that are yet to be completed.

The draft budget includes proposals for new auditoriums, upgrades to sports facilities, and the development of zonal civic centres across the city. Further discussions are expected in upcoming committee meetings before the budget is placed before the general board for approval. More details are awaited as deliberations continue.
