Noteworthy Assets of Vadodara | Baroda

Being the third largest city in Gujarat is not just a geographical term for boasting its size. It’s a lot more from being the city of best sev usal, fine arts/performing arts college, vegetation, growing cosmopolitan culture and of course its people!
The city has come a long way in carving its niche in all the aspects and continues to grow to attract tourism and international investments. Situated on the banks of Vishwamitri river, Vadodara contributes itself in the roster of the best, the largest and the biggest in Gujarat, India and even in Asia!

1. Vadodara has the biggest district court in Asia which was built at a cost of Rs 131 crore. It is situated in Paris Nagar at Diwalipura.


2. The dome of the Faculty of Arts at MS University is Asia’s largest masonry dome after Bijapur’s Gol Gumbaz. The college was designed by Robert Fellowes Chisholm (1840-1915) in an Indo-Saracenic style. The gigantic dome is inspired by Indian and Byzantine styles.


3. The prestigious Hansa Mehta Library was the first library in Gujarat to provide wi-fi facility to students. It is also the first one in the state which is fully air-conditioned. It is named after Shrimati Hansaben Mehta, the first honourable Vice-Chancellor of this university.


4. The magnificent Lukshmi Vilas Palace is the largest dwelling built till date which is four times the size of Buckingham Palace. It still continues to be the residence of the royal Gaekwads.


5. The undergoing construction of the bridge starting from Genda Circle extending till Manisha Chowkdi will be the longest flyover in the state. It is expected to be around 3.4 km long. The whole project costs whopping Rs 400 crores!


6. Did you know that Kamatibaug is the largest public gardens in western India? It is a lush green estate sprawling over 113 acres (0.46 km) square! It is one of the finest gardens in the country, maintained by Vadodara Municipal Corporation. It was built in 1879 by Maharaja Sayaji Rao Gaekwad III.


7. Vadodara has the country’s second green airport after Kochi. It took seven years to complete the massive environmental-friendly project. It was built at a cost of Rs 160 crore and is designed to handle 700 passengers, including international fliers.


8. The solar panel dome at Akota-Dandiabazar link bridge is India’s first ever solar plant ever constructed on the bridge! It generates and supplies electricity to streetlights.
