The Vadodara Municipal Corporation is going to become a pioneer to adopt a revolutionary way to clean our gutters as a part of the smart city project.
For the last 5 days, a Kerela based startup, Genrobotics, have cleaned more than 40 drainage systems which would have otherwise required 120 workers to climb into and out of manholes.
The municipal corporation will soon buy the robots after the elections. Mayor Jigisha Sheth said this was to stop manual scavengers from entering drainage holes and falling ill from the diseases they contract in the drainage system.
Genrobotic’s invention, ‘Bandicoot’, has a shape similar to human anatomy — it is equipped with a hand, eye, foot, and mouth. The robot is fitted with cameras at various angles and after entering the sewer, the inside status information can be seen on the display exposed by this camera.
